About

"Winner of the 2012 Leading Wales Award - Leadership in Social Enterprise"

The Telecentre & Business School (TABS) is a social enterprise established as a company limited by guarantee in July 1995. Its business mission is to support personal development to individual and community benefit through the provision of learning opportunities and the creation of new businesses, particularly social businesses. TABS have a long tradition of working in partnership to meet the needs of local residents with partners including UCW Swansea, the University of Glamorgan, Coleg Morganwg the Workers Educational Association, Manpower, the Coalfields Regeneration Trust and Communities First.

Currently our main focus is on helping NEETS (Not-in-Education, Employment or Training) into employment. The organisation currently delivers a range of activities aimed at tackling youth unemployment and encourage enterprise as a path out out of unemployment. These activities include skills training, personal development training (Pacific Institute), vocational work-placements, employability advice and guidance, multi-media training (Purple Sheep Digital), business and enterprise training (particularly social enterprise), mentoring and coaching.

The organisation has won the Leading Wales Award for 'Leadership in Social Enterprise 2012' and the Head of the Valleys Innovation Award for 'Most Innovative Social Enterprise' in 2010, and recently the Guardian's 'Social Enterprise Job Creation' Competition 2013 for our work getting young people back into employment.

We have recently employed a dedicated Creative Development Officer and Youth Engagement Officer and provide a range of free arts and media training to local residents, in particular those aged 16-24.
